Shadow of War, We say no more

Update: Warner Brothers have issued a new statement very recently since the Thunderclap was originally posted about the charity DLC. This Blogpost has been adjusted accordingly as instead of selling the DLC, WB will be giving some money directly to the family and encourages any-one who wishes to help support them to donate to the families own fundraising page. Rather than remove the original content I will instead strike through it so people can see what was here before.

This is to Warner Bros or any-one else reading this who has seen this link and wants to know more about what is happening.

I am one consumer but I hope my sentiments echo those of many more.

When lootboxes were added to Warner Bros Shadow of War on top of  the game being a full price retail game and having a Season pass. I was put off and due to said thing it made me decide not to buy it until it has a substantial price drop. Maybe even not to buy it at all. If you're reading this in release day because you looked up information and are an consumer who wants to make informed purchasing decisions now you know this and will see there is another reason not to support the game. If you're from Warner Bros reading this, this and the next reason are why the early sales are lower than expected and why sales will remain that way for Shadow of War.

In addition to the Lootboxes a DLC was added to honour a developer who died during the games development. It was meant as a nice touch to honour a dead person and people would have supported this with the money going to their family or charity. The issue is Warner Bros is not sending all the money to charity. In fact if you buy the DLC outside of the USA or in certain states in the USA Warner Brothers will give $0 of that purchase to charity and seemingly pocket it all. I see this as unacceptable, I hope you reading this do too.

While I and many others wish we could support Shadow of War as it's developers do seem to have wanted to make a good game it is not due to them we cannot support it. It is due to Warner Bros and publisher demands to try and pressure player to spend even more via lootboxes and Warner Bros seeming desire to take advantage of peoples good will by pocketing money they were giving in the hopes it would go to charities and good causes.

If you are reading this and from Warner Bros. This is why people aren't buying your game and I hope you're hearing the message loud and clear.

No Lootboxes in $60 games with Season passes
No keeping money that people were hoping would go to charity or to help the family of a dedicated developer.
